My First Bundle of Joy

It’s been a while since I last posted here.  If you have been a regular reader of this blog, then I know you’re wondering why I don’t get to post as much unlike the previous year.

No, I did not take a vacation off to some paradise-like place.

No, I did not get ill and had to be forced to take some time off.

And of course, no, I did not lose my motivation in continuing this blog.

The reason is quite simple – the natural course of life got in the way icon smile My First Bundle of Joy

More specifically, I finally gave birth – to my very first child, a healthy baby boy, to be exact. icon biggrin My First Bundle of Joy

He was born on August 1, 2012 at 9:10 a.m. via cesarean section.  Well, don’t get me wrong.  I envisioned a normal birth (as my OB and the nurses who took care of me prior to my labor at the hospital confidently predicted it), but due to birthing complications and the discovery of a rather thick umbilical cord wrapped around his neck, I had to undergo an emergency c-section.

Being pregnant for exactly 9 months (yes, really exact, from November 1, 2011 till August 1, 2012), having to go through the ups and (mostly) downs of pregnancy, and enduring the indescribable pain of labor and giving birth, finally the baby is out!

At last, I can lead a normal life again, or so I thought.  I never knew that the moment we brought home baby, our lives are certainly going to change from then on, forever..

The first few weeks were quite difficult for me and my husband.  As first-time parents, we had to endure the lack of sleep because baby seems to be enjoying himself waking up in the wee hours of the morning and fussing all over.  Aside from the obvious lack of sleep, other issues I suffered from would be: breastfeeding difficulty, baby needing to change his clothes every now and then due to milk spitups, and the constant worry over financial matters.

I do hope I didn’t bore you with my post.  I just thought I should write this one up so to let you know what I am up to for now (and why this blog is somewhat lacking in posts for the past few months).  Hopefully in due time I get to post here regularly as I did before.

Oh, by the way, my first bundle of joy is nicknamed “Carlo”. icon smile My First Bundle of Joy

Tomorrow, he will be exactly 1 month old.

Below is a picture of him on his first day at the hospital nursery.

Thanks for your time!

Hi Johanna,
My best friend had undergone cesarean section too on her third daughter. I remember that she had a hard time breastfeeding her child too. I hope your baby’s health is fine.

I understand your situation on the milk spitups, been there, done that. Babies are so fragile on their first months, huh? But I know it makes every parent happy to see their babies smiling and contented while sleeping peacefully.

Happy to know you’re doing okay. Looking forward to your next post! :)

Hi Cara,
I have read that it is normal to have difficulty with breastfeeding when you have undergone CS. My baby’s health is okay, thanks for asking :)

Yep, babies look so fragile and we were really careful on his first few weeks with us. He’s not able to hold his head by himself still as of now. I think he’ll be able to on his 2nd-4th month? I guess it depends on his development progress.

I agree with you, it makes me happy to see my baby flashing that toothless smile of his, even if I feel so tired, my tiredness seems to go away. :)

Hi Johanna,
It is understandable to be offline from blogging because you are busy enough in trying to take care of your newborn. Looking forward to your next post once you finally get used to taking care of a baby and being able to get well after your CS experience…

Hi Phil,
Thanks! I sure hope I can get back from writing posts regularly as soon as possible, but it’s quite hard to do that right away with a newborn :)

Hi Johanna,
It’s okay, thanks to your post we get to know why your blog does not have much posts unlike before. Get well soon okay! I believe that having undergone cesarean section is a painful experience (once the anesthesia wears off). Congratulations to your first baby! :)

Hi Johanna,
Congratulations on your first baby! I believe he’s born on this year of the Water Dragon, which I have read that it’s a rare thing on the Chinese Zodiac Sign or Feng Shui. My mom is into these kinds of stuff, so I quite know a thing or two about the Chinese horoscope.

Hi Laura,

Thanks! Yes, I am aware that he’s a Water Dragon, and that combination (with the water element) happens only in more than 50 years, I think, so you could really say it’s a rare thing. :)

Hi Shiela,
Babies are really cute – when they are not crying or fussing about, hehe! :) Thanks!

Hey Johanna,
Congratulations to you and your new baby! I believe undergoing CS is both stressful for you and the baby as well.
We can understand how difficult it is for a first-time mother to care for a newborn and it is your right to take a break at such moments. All the best for your future blogging! :)

Hi Adrian,
Thanks! I’ve had a difficult time trying to undergo a normal birth, so I had to undergo emergency CS.
Thanks for the well wishes :)
